Throughout the history of Nino Franco, the vineyards were the ones to make the difference, starting with Grave di Stecca, one of the rarest and perhaps the only example of clos in the area, cultivated as a single vineyard since 1991. An “iconic vineyard”, a symbol of the cultural revolution that allowed Primo Franco to completely bind Prosecco to its territory of origin, plot by plot.

Today, Nino Franco directly cultivates three plots in the municipality of Valdobbiadene, stretching for about 4 hectares. An area that resulted from relentless mass selection, the vineyards are vinified separately and cultivated according to specific protocols. The result is a range of «grand cru» Prosecco wines: labels that, season after season, embody the intimate bond of a wine to its chosen terroir.

Grave di Stecca

Nino Franco

Grave di Stecca is one of a kind. The heart of the winery’s production, its vineyards nestle the Franco family's residence. It formerly belonged to Villa Barberina, and its borders are marked by high stone walls which make it quite similar to a French clos

The name comes from “Valle di Stecca”, of which the vineyard represents the «Grave»: the colluvial soils that formed following the stratification of debris from the erosion of mountain slopes. The microclimate of the vineyard, which is shielded on all sides, allows for the production of the extraordinary and most precious sparkling wine by Nino Franco, Brut Grave di Stecca: 100% Glera characterized by a rich and multifaceted pulp, refined elegance and outstanding character.

Col del Vent - Nodi

Nino Franco

A vineyard less than a hectare wide and located just outside the town of Valdobbiadene. From Col del Vent come the grapes for Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore Nodi, thus named to indicate the «measurement of wind» and as a reference to the “knots” of the vines, which are more than a hundred years old. These belong to clones that have long been cultivated and are currently propagated directly in the field. The reddish soils are made up of elements of fluvio-glacial origin, prevalently clayey and skeletal. Col del Vent yields a velvety and typical Prosecco that is tightly bound to the most elegant and gentle expression of Glera.

Vigneto
della Riva
di San Floriano

Nino Franco

The «Rive», in Venetian dialect, refer to the vineyards located on the side of the hill: these are the hardest to cultivate, but they yield the grapes with the best quality. Riva di San Floriano is no exception: a vineyard stretching for around one hectare and characterized by steep slopes, its most evident and peculiar trait is being a «vineyard for population». It is a plot where Glera vines do not come from the same clone, but from mass selections of different ages. The beginning of this biodiversity can be traced back to the history of the Riva: its challenging position and extreme inclination did not allow the total uprooting of a vineyard. Therefore, the stocks, often belonging to different clones, were replaced individually.

San Floriano rests on whitish marly and calcareous soils characterized by fragments of biancone and silt in the lower section. The vineyards yield Prosecco wines that stand out for their elegance, intense floral aromas and good acidity, as well as for their rich flavor.
